GRAND JURY INDICTMENTS ON MULTIPLE BAY AREA GANG MURDERS

San Mateo County District Attorney, Stephen M. Wagstaffe, along with San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks, East Palo Alto Police Chief Lee Violett, Belmont Police Chief Dan DeSmidt, and Redwood City Police Chief J. R. Gamez, will be joined by other local, state and federal law enforcement to announce the recent grand jury indictment of sixteen members and associates of three criminal street gangs from the cities of East Palo Alto and Menlo Park.
The crimes for which the defendants were indicted include murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to murder dissuasion of witnesses and attempted armed robbery. The crimes spanned the Peninsula, from East Palo Alto to San Francisco.
This indictment is the result of the year-long investigation by numerous law enforcement officers from San Mateo County, and the neighboring counties of Santa Clara and San Francisco. This multi-agency investigation, named “Operation Sunny Day” was the largest and most extensive investigation of its kind in San Mateo County.
