Mary Hughes is president of Hughes And Company, a leading political consulting firm, and founder of Close the Gap CA, a campaign to increase the number of progressive women in the California Legislature. Three years ago, she founded the 2012 project for the Center for American Women and Politics, with a similar nationwide goal, following a 2010 election cycle in which the number of women in state legislatures dropped by more than 60.
