The Game – 239 – Crisis Text Line

The holidays are a time, Charles Dickens wrote, “when want is keenly felt.” Depression and emotional challenges are not unusual this time of year, or many others. We talk to two women who are working to provide a lifeline to those whose troubles are overwhelming them, particularly among young people. The Game is Mental Health, The Game is on.

At a recent Palo Alto news conference, Caltrain announced it was joining a regional partnership to spread the word about Crisis Text Line, as it sounds, a text line for people facing emotional crises, focused, as the technology suggests, on younger people. It is the next generation of crisis phone lines – texters can directly reach someone who has been trained in how to respond and how to counsel. It has the benefit of being immediate. We are joined by two people who are directly involved in the work of the Crisis Text Line – Libby Craig, Bay Area Director of Crisis Text Line, and Mei-Hsia Tan, a Crisis Counselor.
